Who Is Ma Joad?

The "Mother" Road

Located along Historic Route 66 in the adorable midwestern town of Baxter Springs, Kansas, "Ma Joad" is serving fresh espresso and handcrafted energy drinks from a 1968 vintage travel trailer.

We tapped into the heritage of the four-states area to find the perfect name for our coffee cart. "Ma Joad" is strength personified as a lead character in the classic American novel, The Grapes of Wrath, written by John Steinbeck. The author shines a light on the strength that mothers have in, not only holding their families together, but keeping them moving forward. The Grapes of Wrath is one American family’s story during difficult times. The path they take to create a new life is along Route 66., affectionately called “The Mother Road”.

We offer many delicious drink choices with and without the buzz, including smoothies, Italian sodas & steamers. Snacks are light, yet satisfying and ready for the road.  Ma Joad is proud to serve carefully-sourced and meticulously roasted coffee from O-Gah-Pah Coffee Roasters, a local tribal business, and Lotus plant-based energy drinks in many flavors and colors. You can literally drink the Rainbow Bridge via the Lotus drink menu that changes seasonally.. All our drinks are topped with a little gummy bear emblematic of the kind of tender care your Mama would give.

Need some cool Route 66 Merch? We have that covered too! We partner with locals to create some very cool t-shirts, hats and hoodies to keep you feeling and looking fresh on the road.
